The purpose of this letter is to encourage, challenge, and empower you as a representative of Jesus Christ, to stand your ground in contending for the validity of the preeminence of Jesus Christ! The young small church was faced with the challenges of false teachers who taught that Jesus was not fully God and fully man(Gnosticism and Modalism, still embraced by some today). The church today faces similar challenges of heretical teaching and must stand our ground and refute false teachers. The apostle Paul felt the urgency to refute those false claims and to strengthen the saints , warning them of the dangers of mixing or returning to the old heretical ways. Paul sets forth a masterful and strategic defense for the deity and preeminence of Christ. Jude verse 3 says”…contend earnestly for the Faith”, Stand your ground!
